The closing date for these bursaries is 15 November 2024. Only students who applied for Masters or Honours programmes in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Financial Risk Management, as well as BDatSci 4th year students in Statistical Learning may submit an application. The bursary is only awarded to successful applicants for the Postgraduate programmes of the Department and who will be full-time students of these programmes in 2025. Please note that all sections on the application form should be completed, failing to complete them, will result in the application not to be considered. The bursary will cover all study fees for 2025, as well as accommodation and living expenses – amount is capped at what University allows (minimum R130 000). A successful student of this bursaries may not accept any bursary from any other entity, no matter how small the amount.
The number of bursaries to be awarded are limited.
If you do not hear from the Department by the middle of January, it is as a result of your application being unsuccessful. The instructions to submit the application appear on the form.

Prof Faantjie Pretorius was the first Professor in Statistics and founder of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at Stellenbosch University. His heirs are sponsoring a bursary to a third-year student in Statistics or Mathematical Statistics. Merit and the financial situation of an applicant are considered in allocating the bursary.
